For honest reflection and progress
…Over the past two decades, I’ve worked across engineering, consulting and corporate leadership, initially as a mechanical engineer and then partnering with firms across New Zealand and Australia to elevate asset management practices. Most recently, I’ve worked as a General Manager at one of New Zealand’s largest listed infrastructure companies.
Across these roles, I’ve witnessed a defining contrast, the difference between:
🚀 Staff who are enablers… those who add value through every interaction.
🛑 And those who unintentionally drive progress to a halt (or worse…backwards).
Most organisations invest heavily in developing their staff’s technical capability. Far fewer recognise the strategic value of investing in effective work habits, professionalism and what I call corporate intelligence - the ability to read the room, understand where value can be added and drive progress.
From technical engineering to corporate governance…
That’s why I founded NZ Grad Coaching - to help graduates and junior staff build the corporate intelligence they need to navigate complexity, earn trust, and show up in ways that others respect and remember.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work across a range of organisations and learn from colleagues who lift culture and performance through great work habits and structures.
My own corporate intelligence has been shaped from time working at…
Vector Limited
MWH Global (now Santec Consulting Engineers)
Goodman Fielder
Cadbury / Mondelez
Ravensdown Fertiliser
Fletcher Building
Ministry of Education
Cadbury / Mondelez
Red Stag Timber
Deloitte’s 2025 Global Human Capital Trends Survey
Polled nearly 10,000 business in 93 countries and found that…
New employees are unprepared —> two-thirds (66%) of managers and executives say that most recent hires are not fully prepared.
Staff are inefficient and struggling to find capacity —> Respondents report that 44% of time everyday is spent on work that doesn’t contribute to the value their organisation creates - unnecessary meetings, long emails with no accountability, excessive collaboration tools.
Organisations are focusing on skills more than jobs —> Traditional models of work are giving way to more fluid and dynamic frameworks. 71% of workers perform work outside of their job description.
